Patricia C. Penton

Patricia C. Penton has been licensed to practice in Louisiana since 1983, working primarily in the insurance defense field. A great deal of her work has focused on toxic tort litigation, involving in particular asbestos, silicosis, welding fumes, and chemical spills. She has handled litigation including Jones Act and Longshore personal injury and death resulting from explosions, capsizing and sinking, collisions, and allisions between vessels. She has filed Limitation of Liability actions on behalf of ship owners, prepared 8(i) settlements and time-charter agreements, pursued and defended maritime property damage claims, defended negligent hiring claims, oil spills, cargo loss claims, vessel construction disputes, and performed vessel seizures. She has provided defense on behalf of, and legal services to, foreign and domestic insurers, as well as numerous companies involved in shipbuilding, marine transportation, the oil and gas industry, offshore oil exploration and production activities. She has also represented personal injury plaintiffs, been involved in the legal challenges presented by bankruptcy as a result of personal injury claims, handled domestic issues including custody and community property disputes, successions and trusts, real estate transactions, and zoning issues. She has represented municipal governments and their various agencies, including the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Department, has taught business law at a local community college and for several years was an Assistant District Attorney in St. Tammany Parish.
