Patricia C. Penton

Patricia C. Penton has been licensed to practice in Louisiana since 1983, working primarily in the insurance defense field. Currently she is involved in defending premises owners and executive officers in occupational disease suits brought by longshoremen, maritime employees, shipyard, foundry, construction, and other industrial workers. A great deal of her work has focused on toxic tort litigation, in particular asbestos, silica, benzene, CIRCLA actions, and Multi-District litigation involving welding fumes. She has handled maritime litigation including Jones Act and Longshore personal injury and death claims resulting from explosions, capsizing and sinking, collisions and allisions between vessels. She has filed Limitation of Liability actions on behalf of ship owners, prepared 8(i) settlements and time-charter agreements, pursued and defended maritime property damage claims, defended negligent hiring claims, oil spills, cargo loss claims, vessel construction disputes, and performed vessel seizures. She has provided defense on behalf of and legal services to foreign and domestic insurers, as well as numerous companies involved in shipbuilding, marine transportation, the oil and gas industry, offshore oil exploration and production activities.

Prior to joining Lee, Futrell & Perles in 2004, Ms. Penton defended hearing loss claims, pursued and defended slip and fall cases, handled domestic issues including custody and community property disputes, successions and trusts, real estate transactions, title disputes and zoning issues. She previously served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Slidell, Louisiana and Assistant District Attorney for St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.
